Kabaddi – Movie Review

A dark comedy, Nepali movie ‘Kabaddi’ is a movie by Ram Babu Gurung featuring Dayahang Rai, Nischal Basnet, and Rishma Gurung in lead roles. Other actors in the movie include Rajan Khatiwada, Bijay Baral, and Buddhi Tamang. The presentation of Black Horse Pictures, the movie is made on the story, screenplay and the direction of Ram Babu Gurung. Cinematographer Purushottam Pradhan has shot the movie, Govinda Rai was the choreographer and Neelima Sharma had designed the costume. The movie is jointly produced by Nischal Basnet and Sunil Chand Rauniyar.

Strength and Weakness

‘Kabaddi’ presents a true image of Mustang in terms of social and geographical beauty is presented in the movie. The characters in the movie represent the true representation of real people and the viewers can feel the emotions of the characters. It’s not only the background music, the silence is also properly used in the movie. All the characters look real.

The first half flows smoothly and the viewers feel the tension of the story and binding. But, the second half fails to follow the same pace. The events happen in a bit of a haste. Although the scenes preceding the ending feel a bit out of pace, the ending is perfect. The script could have been made better.

The plot on Thakali community and a remote part of Nepal, the movie could have shed more light in the traditions of Thakali ethnic community.

To add to this trio is another talent Jatin Sharma, the man who has given Hum Aur Tum a new twist and direction. Jatin has beautifully re-mixed soulful numbers like Jaane Jaan, Kya Yehi Pyar Hai, Hum Aur Tum, Kora Kagaz etc. and has managed to retain the essence of the original compositions.

Hum Aur Tum was recently launched in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with a lot of fan fair and glitz.

Rajinikanth - Deepika's Kochadaiiyaan with Koyelaanchal, Hawa Hawaai

More than three years after his last release Endhiran [Robot], Rajinikanth is arriving on the big screen again with Kochadaiiyaan. However that would be amidst a mad rush, what with as many as half a dozen other Hindi films releasing on the same day. That's not counting other Tamil, Telugu and Hollywood films that would be hitting the screen.

"While it is a given that Eros would be giving the widest ever release for a Rajinikanth starrer on May 9, there are many other films in the radar as well. While the most notable of them all are Koyelaanchal [Vinod Khanna, Suniel Shetty] and Hawa Hawaai [Saqib Saleem], there are Mastram, Manjunath, Ye Hai Bakrapur and Khwaabb in the fray as well," informs our source.

This is quite unprecedented since the norm is for other films to reschedule their arrival in case a biggie fixes its release date.

"Koyelaanchal as well as Hawa Hawaai had confirmed their plans long ago so they can't be expected to make any changes. Now that Kochadaiiyaan is also releasing on the same date, it is too late for anyone to re-look at the release calendar. In fact a much smaller film like Mastram too has intensified its promotion," an observer adds.

No one appears to be re-looking at their release plan, considering the fact that the Friday after this is the day when election results would be declared. Though Bollywood in general has stayed away from June 16, Himesh Reshammiya has taken the step of bringing his The Xpose on this date.

"It is an exception and Himesh could well reap in benefits of a solo release. However it is pretty much a wait and watch scenario for the other films," the source continues.

As for Eros [Kochadaiiyaan], Asshu Trikha [Koyelaanchal] and Fox [Hawa Hawaai], the confirmation stays for May 9, being D-Day. With Deepika Padukone, who enjoyed four 100 crore super hits last year, one waits to see the kick-start that she gains with Kochadaaiyaan being her first release of the year with no less than Rajinikanth for company.

Humshakals theatrical promo to unveil on Wednesday

The wait is going to be over very soon. After the unveiling of its digital motion poster a few weeks back during India-Pakistan T-20 match, Humshakals promotion would now be entering its second leg. Theatrical promo of the Sajid Khan directed comedy would be launched online across all channels this Wednesday.

"The motion poster was just a teaser of sorts and now with the film nine weeks away, there would be enhanced momentum in the film's promotion starting with the theatrical trailer," confirms our source.

Those who have had a dekko already are vouching for it to be just the kind of Summer blockbuster that one is expecting.

"It is a fast paced promo with something happening practically every moment," reveals an insider, "It is rip roaring, colorful and vibrant. The very USP of seeing Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor is well projected here. Moreover, for those looking for glamour quotient, Tamannaah Bhatia, Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta make for an enticing appearance too. Just wait and watch."

Apparently, Sajid went through the most minute details for days at succession to get every frame right and went through multiple options before green lighting the promo which is now ready to be released.

"I had to," says Sajid, "My promise to the audience is '9 Times The Fun' and for that I had to work at least 9 times harder on the promo."

No wonder, producers Fox and Vashu Bhagnani are vouching for the promo that has been cut and are anticipating record views for it in quick time before the film readies for its June 20, release
